The Zamfara state Governor Dauda Lawal has appealed to the Ulama'u consultative council ( UCC) to distance themselves from politics, saying "Politics is not your business because you have other role to play which is preaching to the Muslim Ummah on what is right, and what is bad.
Governor Dauda made the appeal today during a weekly preaching session organised by the state Ministry For Religious Affairs, in continuation of marking the 24th year anniversiry of Islamic Shari'ah legal system in the state, under the leadership of former Governor senator Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura in the year 2000.
The Governor reacted to what an Islamic scholar Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya has said, by challenging him and his government, saying that, the government under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal has abondoned the Sharia legal system in the state using technocrat in running the affairs of the state without listening, and showing conrcen to Islamic scholars.
He lamented that, "I'm ready to help the Islamic shariah, and give all kind of asistance and all necessary support academically and financially, but I'm not accepting any munuplation to spend government resources in the name of shariah".
