Ahead of it is Preparations of 2023 general election the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Zamfara State has organized an epochal media chat with journalists in the state on 'Role of Journalists In Election Reportage in the 2023 General Elections'.
The event which was a collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists leadership Zamfara State Council and the Corps was organized to fathom possible ways of conducting the 2023 general elections in a calm and secured atmosphere.
In his Presentation a paper the Commandant Muhammad Bello Muazu therefore told the journalists to jettison breaking news that could break the heart rather they should embrace news that could give hope to the common man on the street.
He advised the news men to shun fake news and to embark on confidence building and restoration of hope to the common man.
The commandant reminded the journalists of their roles as gate keepers and that any news published by them in this 2023 elections could make or mar the sovereignty of this great nation.
He appealed to the pen masters to be factual, fair and accurate in their reportage on election matters in order to creat a rancor free electoral atmosphere.
Commandant Muhammad Bello Muazu also enjoined the journalists to close ranks with security agencies in the fight against anything or information that posses threat to the smooth conduct of the general elections.
In his welcome address ealier the chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Zamfara State comrade Ibrahim Musa, commended the novel initiative of Commandant MB Muazu for organizing such a forum. He said this is the first of its kind in the history of Zamfara State.
Comrade Maizare pledged the unalloyed support of the Union to the success of the 2023 General Elections.
He therefore assured the Commandant that as fourth force in governance, they are ready to tackle the menace of fake news which mostly are perpetuated by unconventional social media handlers.
The Journalists are therefore poised to report facts and accurate news in order to douse political tension during the general elections he added.
